Countrymen

Why not join Countrymen?

If you are a man who has been affected by loneliness or feel that you miss the company of other men and the chance to feel useful again then you could benefit from an afternoon at Rylands Farm with us.

We have a group of 10- 12 men on a Tuesday and Thursday afternoon who might be occupied with activities in the barn or out on the farm. This could include feeding animals, gardening in our polytunnel, woodwork projects or enjoying a game of skittles or having a go at archery.

"Before joining I visited and spoke to the staff to make sure I'd like it. I did and 4 years later I'm still going every week. Whatever your age you'll be made very welcome"

If you need some support, then we can offer this unobtrusively with our staff and volunteers who will ensure you get the most out of your visit and feel part of the team.

It doesn’t matter if you can’t walk far or feel you need help, we also have special offroad scooters called ‘trampers’ which you can drive with our help and get around the farm or you can just lean on the farm gate and have a talk.

The farm really does make a difference and there is often lots of laughter and banter. We might even end the session with a song but we always have tea and cake!

"I was depressed and isolated. I missed the life I oncce had in the countryside and had little contact with peopleoutsied my family" That's all changed now. I love being outside again. It brings back memories. It's become a new adventure for me - a healthy adventure. And I'm surrounded by people who share my interests"

Joining a new group can seem a little scary at first so we offer an introductory session, a chance to come and meet us and have an informal visit and walk around the farm. You can then see if you think you’d like to come again. We hope you do!!
